How to NetworkNetworking GoalsWhy set networking goals? Networking goals provide a focus and allow you to make the most of your networking time. Your networking goals should encompass two areas - Friends you already know and friends you have yet to meet. Friends you already know - What new information do you want to share with them? This information can be of a personal or business nature. Be creative in your sharing process. What specific questions would you like to ask them? Ask questions to which you do not already know the answer. Make your questions specific to them, their job, their interest, etc. What is a good next step for both of you? Maybe it is time for a meeting, a phone call, or a meal. Friends you have yet to meet - Decide how many new people per a meeting you want to meet and seek them out. A great method is to look for anyone standing alone and introduce yourself. Engage them by asking questions and listening attentively. Request a business card so you can remember their names, have a record of who you spoke with and how to reach them, you can use the back of the card to write down what you want to remember and what might be a relevant next step to take. Networking can be fun and is always easier when you are fresh. Be enthusiastic
because your enthusiasm can be contagious. Soon you could be the one everyone
else wants to meet!
